Although PopupCD is an extension, it has been written to be as clean as possible. It does not patch any traps, it only installs in the jGNE filter chain, and it does this in the accepted way and with optimized code. There have been no reported conflicts with other extensions that can be attributed to PopupCD. There are however a few nagging or cosmetic problems that I am attempting to correct...
･ A conflict exists with some PCI-based PowerMacs (specifically the 7200/7500/7600/8500/9500 machines) that causes playback to stop after several minutes. To check if you have this problem on your PCI Mac, insert a CD and press PLAY. If playback continues through the entire disk, you most likely are not afflicted. If playback stops by itself after 5-10 minutes, you have one of the suspect machines. I would appreciate a quick email note with your hardware configuration so that I can further track down the problem. This problem MAY be related to QuickTime and/or the QuickTime Powerplug, so you may want to try PopupCD without these extensions enabled, and let me know if the problem goes away. Also, if you have experienced this problem with other CD player applications, I would appreciate knowing about it. Any other info relating to this problem would be appreciated. This has been a nagging problem for me for quite some time, and I would love to finally track it down.
･ When using PopupCD while WriteNow is frontmost, when you pop up the remote control, the cursor changes to a watch cursor. This is only a cosmetic problem, it does not cause any functional problems. If you have this problem with any other programs, please let me know.
･ If you have the option key configured as one of your popup keys, and you try to popup the remote control with the mouse outside the windows of the frontmost application, this can sometimes cause the frontmost application to be hidden. Sometimes the MacOS catches the option-click and thinks you are trying to switch apps. The option-click is an OS shortcut that hides the frontmost app and switches to the app whose window you clicked on. To show the app again, select it from the application menu. To avoid this problem, do not use the option key as a popup key.
･ If you have the Apple Control Strip, or other floating application, and you popup the remote control over the control strip, and then interact with the control strip, portions of the PopupCD remote and/or the control strip can get erased. Again, this is only a cosmetic problem. This happens because PopupCD is not a true window, and does not get update or redraw messages. It takes a picture of the area under the remote before it pops up, then restores it after it goes away. It also expects to have complete control of the mouse and screen while it is popped up.
